Essential Agreements for Blogging

For our unit of inquiry on technology students have been learning about how technology changes how we express ourselves and how to be responsible when using technology.

Students have completed a "Digital Passport" where they have learned about safe communication, privacy on the internet, cyber bullying, effective ways of using search engines and how to properly give credit to others for their work. Also, the U.S. Embassy came to our school to teach students about Cyber Safety.

As a continuation of our learning about technology, students will create their own blog as a place to publish and share a portfolio of their learning. These blogs will only be shared with their classmates, teachers and family members through an e-mail invitation.

Below are the essential agreements of blogging that students came up with to ensure safe, constructive and fun learning while using blogs.

For homework, students will need to read these essential agreements with their family. After reading, please comment on this post letting your teachers know that you and your family read and agree to the essential agreements created by 5L students.

Essential Agreements for Blogging
Created by 5L Students

1.) Do not share personal information (last name, address, phone number, school name and other people's information).

2.) Only invite people who you know to view your blog (classmates, teachers and family).

3.) Post on your own blog and comment on your classmate's blogs in a positive, respectful and thoughtful way.

4.) Regularly post your learning on the blog. Be sure to revise and edit to make sure you publish quality work.

5.) Regularly view and comment on your classmate's blogs. Be sure to write about connections you made with the blog post to your self, books you are reading and the world around you.
